Chamber Music in the Cowherds’ Tower 2017
”In a very small hall, in one music room, one can easily grasp the most complicated melodies, strange harmonies and interlocking rhythms. This is because the listeners are close to the sound source, which means that the instrumentalists and singers can bring out all the refinements of their performance techniques – as in an intimate conversation, nothing is lost in the room. In pieces written for such performance conditions, the writing technique is allowed to indulge in esoteric refinements. It is no wonder, therefore, that chamber music has long been the preferred expressive means for technical boldness due to this directness of sonic conveyance.”
We wish to do justice to Paul Hindemith‘s high standards with our concert series in the Cowherds’ Tower. We shall be presenting eleven concerts of chamber music in varying ensembles, each of which is placed in relation to corresponding works of Paul Hindemith. In 2017, amongst other works, the programme will include the rarely heard first version of the monumental Lied cycle Das Marienleben (Life of Mary), Op. 27 (1923), as well as the 1943 Sonata for Alto Horn and Piano, played on Hindemith’s own alto horn.
You can find an overview of the 2017 concert series starting on 16 November 2016 on our website: http://www.hindemith.info/de/kabinett/konzerte/
