"Visiting the Hindemith tower" Opportunity for schools – from elementary school classes to advanced students
The Hindemith Institute in Frankfurt in cooperation with the state education authority in the city of Frankfurt offers the opportunity to visit the Cowherds’ Tower situated in Sachsenhausen near the banks of the Main in a one-hour guided tour. The visit begins on the ground floor and progresses through the four storeys devoted to specific themes before culminating in the room at the top of the tower which Hindemith used as his music room. How the grand piano was transported up here and why there is a model railway in the composer’s tower are only two of the questions answered during the tour.
The free visit has been adopted into the series of events “Schools meet culture” in which the department of cultural affairs of the state education authority has initiated direct cultural contacts for schools.
Frankfurt Hindemith City Guide with Model Sheets of the Cowherd's Tower
What does the modern building "Die Welle" (The Wave) on Leerbachstrasse in Frankfurt have in common with the medieval Cowherds' Tower on Grosse Rittergasse in the district of Sachsenhausen? Primary school pupils will soon know the answer: both locations were at one time addresses of Paul Hindemith, who lived one third of his life in Frankfurt am Main.
The Frankfurt Hindemith-City Guide leads schoolchildren to six locations where Hindemith lived and worked. In addition, there are model sheets for constructing a scale model of the Cowherds' Tower. The city tour ends at the Cowherds' Tower and can be rounded off with a visit to the Hindemith Cabinet.
