Chamber music in the smallest concert hall in the world
We are taking the 130th anniversary of Paul Hindemith's birth as an opportunity to present a series of concerts with unusual works and unconventional line-ups. In Hindemith's former ‘music room’ on the top floor of the Kuhhirtenturm, you can experience internationally renowned performers as well as talented young musicians.
On 26 January, Trio Idomeneo will combine Hindemith's 2nd String Trio with works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The concert by Rachelle Hunt (violin) and Nami Ejiri (piano) on 2 March is themed ‘80 years of peace - 80 years of the end of World War II’ with works by Aaron Copland, Paul Hindemith, Jessie Montgomery and Michiru Oshima.
On 30 March, scholarship holders from the Paul Hindemith Orchestra Academy of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra will present works by Antonín Dvořák, Michail I. Glinka, Paul Hindemith and César Franck.
The programme of the André Duo with Piotr Niewiadomski and Tomasz Tomaszewski (violins) on 18 May includes works by Jean-Louis Cherblanc, Johann Anton André and Paul Hindemith.
The Schmuck clarinet trio will perform on 7 September with the programme ‘From Classical to Jazz’, for which they have arranged works by Johannes Brahms, Paul Desmond, Benny Goodman/Turner Layton, The Beatles, Paul Hindemith, Henry Mancini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Astor Piazzolla for unconventional instrumentation.
The concert programme by young violist Maj Julia Bommas and cellist Paula Prudlo on 28 September recalls Hindemith's career as a violist with works by Paul Hindemith, Ludwig van Beethoven, Max Reger, Witold Lutosławski, Thomas Demenga and Astor Piazzolla.
The concert on 26 October with Fabian Menzel (oboe and cor anglais), Anna Stepanova and Xi Zhai (piano) will feature works by Helmut Eder, Alvin Etler, Paul Hindemith, Franz Reizenstein and Joseph Tal under the motto ‘Hindemith and his students’.
