Hindemith Days 2020 - Greetings from Dr Ina Hartwig
This November, the music world is commemorating the 125th anniversary of the birth of Paul Hindemith, a world-class artist and simultaneously one of the most significant individuals from our city. Underlying all his multifarious activities as composer, musician, conductor, music college teacher, music theorist and organiser was his profound conviction that music had a special relevance for a ‘well-functioning’ society. The current Corona pandemic demonstrates the continuing validity of his convictions. We greatly regret that opera houses, musicians and concert organisers are currently being subjected to such massive constraints. I am therefore all the more pleased that the Hindemith Institute Frankfurt and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt have been working together with a number of additional cooperation partners despite the extremely difficult year for cultural institutions and have succeeded in compiling such an attractive and highly-varied programme for this year’s very special Hindemith Days festival.
I wish all project partners the best of success.
Dr Ina Hartwig, Head of Cultural Affairs in the City of Frankfurt am Main
