The latest volume issued by the Hindemith Complete Edition contains the String Quartets Nos. 4 to 7. Together with the genesis of the composition of the individual works, the editor discusses the reception of individual quartets performed by the Amar Quartet, in which Hindemith performed as violist, also calling attention to early recordings. Facsimiles of sketch material of the 7th Quartet round off the volume. With this and Volume V, published in 2001, all the string quartets of Hindemith are now represented in the Complete Edition.

Hindemith Yearbook 2012/ XLI (published in 2013)
The Hindemith Boom of the 1920s in the Soviet Union
The music of Paul Hindemith was observed and performed with great interest during the 1920s in the Soviet Union. The new Hindemith Yearbook (in German only) presents texts of Russian musicians and musicologists in German translation for the first time. The reception of his music is surprisingly wide-ranging, even under the influence of political or ideological guidelines.

Paul Hindemith: Dame Music (In Praise of Music) (1943) for Mixed Voices (Kopie 1)
(Women's Chorus, Male Chorus, Mixed Chorus), Strings and Other Instruments ad lib. / für Gesang (Frauenchor, Männerchor, gemischten Chor), Streicher und andere Instrumente ad lib. Text by Martin Luther; English version by William Strunk, Jr. / Harvey Officer. Ed. Luitgard Schader. Mainz [et al.]: Schott, 2013. ISMN 979-0-001-16911-0. Edition Schott ED 20447. Score and parts
This work, Dame Music, was composed out of Hindemith's concern to write "colloquial music" for amateurs and music lovers, fulfilling its purpose in shared music-making. These pieces, however, "contain some hard nuts to crack for the music lover [...]." The technical requirements of the pieces are limited in scope, but the amateur musicians are required to become familiar with Hindemith's melodic-harmonic musical language. Four string instruments form the basis of the ensemble; other instruments used ad libitum may be added to strengthen the sound. In order to bridge the gap between performers and listeners, he encourages the audience to sing along during short passages. Corresponding with the character of the work, Hindemith made several versions of this piece.
The Luther text is placed under the notes in English and German. The English preface by Hindemith with a German translation, as well as an introduction by the editor, complete this edition.
