Historical Schott Archive
The Fondation Hindemith has acquired valuable materials from the historical archive of Schott Music Publishers, and thus considerably expanded the amount of autograph documents of the composer stored at the Hindemith Institute in Frankfurt. Over 80 percent of all preserved Hindemith autographs can be found today at the Hindemith Institute.
A significant portion of the acquired archival documents consists of the correspondence between Hindemith and the publishers Willy and Ludwig Strecker. It covers a period of over four decades, from the beginning of their cooperation in 1919 until Hindemith's death in 1963. This correspondence is a source of outstanding importance for the scholarly processing of the composer's life and work.
The Hindemithiana from the Schott archive also contain numerous music manuscripts, production templates and first editions. They provide information on the history of the works' composition and form an essential basis for the work on the Hindemith Complete Edition.
