Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau for the Conductor Christoph Eschenbach
The 2016 Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau will be awarded to Christoph Eschenbach. The internationally successful conductor and pianist will receive the renowned prize for his long-standing commitment as an outstanding interpreter of the orchestral works of Hindemith. In 2013, special attention was paid to his CD production of Hindemith‘s Symphonic Metamorphosis (1943), Konzertmusik, Op. 50 (1930) and the Violin Concerto (1939) with the violinist Midori and the NDR Symphony Orchestra. This recording was awarded a Grammy in 2014 in the category of „Best Classical Compendium“. In 2015 Christoph Eschenbach recorded another Hindemith CD with the NDR Symphony Orchestra with the Symphony „Mathis der Maler“ (1934) and the Symphony in E-flat (1940). The awards ceremony will take place on 12 November 2016 in Hanau.
