„Talent Incubator for the Sound of the Future“
The valuable long-term work in the area of developing the up-and-coming generation of the Frankfurt Orchestral School – under the name Paul Hindemith Orchestral Academy - has been underway at the Frankfurt Opera House since 2015. Its namesake is Paul Hindemith, who played in the orchestra from 1915 to 1923 as first violinist and concertmaster. Music composed by him will also be performed at the Benefit Concert on 26 May 2016: the Kammermusik No. 1, Op. 24 No. 1. This cheeky piece earned the composer the reputation of a „bogey of the middle classes“ at its premiere in 1922. Listeners at that time were surprised by the work’s noisy effervescence and unconventional instrumentation; the howling of a siren at the end of the last movement still makes one’s ears prick up today.
