It can be seen again on the operatic stage for the first time in 50 years: Hindemith’s opera «Die Harmonie der Welt» composed in 1957. This monumental late work will be premiered on 8 April 2017 at the Linz Provincial Theatre under the direction of Gerrit Prießnitz, with Dietrich W. Hilsdorf as producer.
In November 2016 the conductor and pianist Christoph Eschenbach was awarded the Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau. Following the awards ceremony, we talked with him about his relationship to Paul Hindemith and his music.
Hindemith’s opera Mathis der Maler will be premiered at the Mainz State Theatre on 18 March 2017. The new production of this key work, being seen in Mainz for the first time since 1962, is in the hands of Elisabeth Stöppler, with Hermann Bäumer conducting the Mainz Philharmonic State Orchestra.
Hindemith Prize of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival
Samy Moussa is being awarded this year’s Hindemith Prize, endowed with 20,000 Euros. The vote of the jury, headed by the SHMF Director Dr. Christian Kuhnt, was unanimous in favour of the composer and conductor, who was born in 1984 in Montréal, Canada.
